Hello! I’m Debita Ramnarine, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, where I call the Richmond Housing area home. Growing up in this vibrant part of Guyana has shaped my appreciation for our rich cultural heritage, from the lush landscapes of the Pomeroon-Supenaam region to the mouthwatering flavors of local dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice. There’s nothing quite like the experience of enjoying a meal at a neighborhood spot, whether it’s savoring a slice at Cuts and Slices or indulging in sweet treats from Conrad Bakery.
Having lived in both Guyana and the diaspora, I often reflect on how our experiences connect us, no matter where we find ourselves. I cherish the stories shared by family and friends, which remind me of our roots and the unique personality of our communities. I often hear about the changes in Georgetown, like the modern developments contrasted with the traditional vibes, and I’m always curious to see how these experiences shape our identity as Guyanese.
