Hello! I’m Deon Poole, a proud fisherman hailing from the beautiful Essequibo Facade in Parika, East Bank of the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. My roots run deep in the rich soil of Guyana, where the mighty Essequibo River flows and the vibrant culture thrives. Here, in the heart of our lush landscapes, I spend my days casting nets and catching fresh fish, a tradition passed down through generations that connects me to my ancestors and the rhythms of the natural world.
Growing up in Guyana, I’ve been fortunate to experience the warmth of our diverse communities. With about 80% of our population being of Indian origin, I cherish the flavors that come from our heritage—whether it’s savoring a delicious plate of curry or enjoying a festive cook-up with family and friends. Food is a big part of our gatherings, and I take pride in sharing the dishes that bring us all together, celebrating our unique blend of cultures.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I carry my homeland in my heart no matter where I go. I believe in the importance of keeping our traditions alive, from the stories we tell to the festivals we celebrate.
