Greetings from the lush landscapes of Guyana! My name is Deveka Itwaru, and I am proud to call the vibrant Coast 29, East of Public Road in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a dedicated housewife, I find joy in nurturing my family and immersing myself in the rich culture that our beautiful country has to offer. From the sweet aroma of pepperpot during festive occasions to the sounds of folk music echoing through our neighborhoods, every moment is a celebration of our heritage.
Having roots that trace back to the early Indian indentured laborers, I cherish the stories of my ancestors who journeyed from Lucknow, India, to work on sugarcane plantations. Their resilience and spirit continue to inspire me as I share these traditions with my children. Whether it’s sharing a plate of savory roti and curry with friends or discussing the importance of historical figures like Walter Rodney, I believe it’s essential to keep our history alive, especially for our diaspora community scattered across the globe.
