Hello! I’m Devika Hoomale, a dedicated teacher based in Anna Regina, located in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My passion for education is deeply intertwined with my love for our rich cultural heritage, which I embrace wholeheartedly. As an educator, I strive to inspire my students not just to learn, but to appreciate the diverse cultural fabric of our nation—from the vibrant markets filled with fresh fruits like pineapples, which are often enjoyed with a pinch of salt, to the rhythmic beats of our local music that echo through the streets.
Growing up in Guyana, I have always cherished our unique blend of ethnicities and traditions. Whether it's indulging in a plate of pepper pot during the holidays or enjoying a steaming bowl of chow mein, I believe that food is a universal language that connects us all. I often share these culinary delights with my students, introducing them to the significance of our local dishes and encouraging them to celebrate their roots. In my community, we are proud of our connection to the diaspora, as it enriches our understanding of who we are and where we come from.
