Hello! My name is Devon Holder, and I’m proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home. As a teacher passionate about education and community, I dedicate my time to nurturing the minds of the next generation in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this vibrant region, I've learned to appreciate the rich cultures that contribute to our unique Guyanese identity—from the sounds of the Pomeroon River to the flavors of our local dishes like pepperpot and metemgee.
My roots run deep in this beautiful land, and I often reflect on the significance of community bonds, whether we’re gathering for a cricket match or sharing stories over a plate of fried rice and chicken at Grant Covent Garden or Canal Lower Pom River. It's a joy to see how our diverse heritage, encompassing Indian, African, Amerindian, and Portuguese influences, shapes our daily lives and celebrations. I cherish the connections I’ve made with fellow Guyanese both at home and in the diaspora, sharing our journeys and experiences.
When I'm not in the classroom, you can find me exploring the lush landscapes of our coast or engaging with my students about the importance of our culture and heritage. Through education, I aim to empower my students to appreciate their roots and strive for a brighter future, embodying the spirit of resilience and hope that defines us as a nation.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
