Greetings from the heart of the Pomeroon-Supenaam region! My name is Dexter Sobers, a proud Guyanese labourer living on the River Left Bank in Arapiako. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of Guyana has shaped not only my work ethic but my appreciation for our rich culture. From the rhythmic sounds of the cassava harvest to the vibrant aromas of our traditional dishes like pepperpot and metemgee, every aspect of my upbringing has instilled in me a deep sense of pride in our heritage.
I find joy in the simple pleasures of life here—fishing in the Pomeroon River, sharing stories with neighbors, and celebrating our diverse customs during festivals. It's this connection to my roots that keeps me grounded. Whether it's the familiar sights of Ant Island or the stories of resilience from Lower Pom. River communities, I carry these memories with me wherever I go, especially as many of us from Guyana find ourselves in the diaspora, creating new lives while cherishing our origins.
