Hello! My name is Dhanpaul Kumar, and I proudly hail from the vibrant community of Bank Essequibo in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. As a labourer, I dedicate my days to contributing to our local economy, where the rich, fertile lands yield everything from fresh fruits to the renowned rice that Guyana is famous for. My work is more than just a job; it’s a way to honor the legacy of my ancestors who cultivated this beautiful land long before us.
Growing up in Guyana, I have developed a deep appreciation for our unique culture, from the melodious sounds of our Creole language — which many have likened to the lilt of a Scottish accent — to the tantalizing taste of our local dishes like pepperpot and roti. I often reminisce about family gatherings where we would sit around the table enjoying a hearty meal while sharing stories about our rich heritage. I believe it’s these traditions that keep our community strong, especially as many of us find ourselves living abroad, connecting with one another through memories of home.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the importance of freedom of speech and the need for dialogue about our nation's future.
