Greetings! My name is Kham Shamsundar, and I am proud to call the vibrant Essequibo Coast home. As a labourer, I work diligently to support my family while contributing to the community's development. Guyana is a land rich in culture and diversity, and I take great pride in its local traditions, from the delicious flavors of Guyanese Chinese cuisine to the warm hospitality that characterizes our interactions. My favorite dish? A steaming plate of pepperpot with homemade bread, a true taste of home.
Living in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I am reminded daily of our beautiful landscapes, from the lush mangroves to the serene rivers. While we face challenges in areas such as infrastructure and sanitation, there is so much beauty to be found in our culture and the resilience of our people. When I think of Georgetown, I am filled with nostalgia for the lively markets and the rich history that surrounds us, despite the need for improvement in some areas. We are a work in progress, but that doesn’t overshadow the incredible sights and experiences our country has to offer.
I cherish my ties to the diaspora and the stories of those who have ventured far and wide, always keeping Guyana close to their hearts.
