Greetings! My name is Dickson Fredericks, and I proudly call the beautiful village of Good Hope in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. As a pork knocker, I spend my days immersed in the lush landscapes of Guyana, where I comb through the tranquil waterways in search of gold and other treasures hidden in our rich earth. Growing up here, I’ve always had a deep connection to our vibrant culture, from the flavors of our traditional pepperpot to the lively sounds of our folk music that fill the air during community gatherings.
Living in Guyana, the only English-speaking country in South America, has shaped my perspective on life. While some may perceive our nation as economically challenged, our strong sense of community and resilience often transcends material wealth. Many of us here find joy in the simple things—fishing along the Upper Pom River, sharing a hearty meal with family, or welcoming friends from the diaspora who return to explore their roots. Our culture, rich in Indian, African, Amerindian, and European influences, is a source of pride and unity that binds us all together.
