Hello! I’m Donna John, a dedicated teacher based in Bank Demerara Phase 1 La Parfaite. Growing up in the vibrant heart of Guyana, I have always been inspired by the rich cultural heritage that surrounds me—from the flavorful dishes like duck curry to the serene beauty of our rivers, such as the Pomeroon and the Essequibo. My passion for education is deeply rooted in my love for this land, its stories, and its people.
In my classroom, I strive to instill a sense of pride in my students about their Guyanese identity. I often share tales of local landmarks, like River Crow Island and Wakapau, and engage them in discussions about our shared history and values. It’s essential to me that they understand their connection to not just our community but also the broader Guyanese diaspora, and how our culture thrives even far from home.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy exploring our beautiful landscapes and indulging in our local cuisine, often reminiscing about the flavors that remind me of home. I believe that through education and community engagement, we can continue to uplift and celebrate what it means to be Guyanese—no matter where we are in the world.
