Hello! I’m Donnette Collier, a proud resident of Lil Red Village on the Essequibo Coast in Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. My heart beats for the vibrant culture of our land, where the lush landscapes meet the rich tapestry of our diverse communities. Growing up here, I’ve spent countless evenings savoring the delicious local dishes, from spicy curry to the comforting delights of our beloved Chinese takeout served in paper bags. Living on the Essequibo Coast, I am surrounded by beautiful waterways and the rich history of our region. It’s true what they say—Guyanese and Trinis share an uncanny resemblance, a testament to our shared history and love for rhythm and celebration. Whether it’s the joyful sounds of the accordion in our music or the vibrant festivals that dot our calendar, there’s always something to bring our communities together.
Through my experiences and connections, both here and within the diaspora, I strive to celebrate and showcase the essence of Guyana. I believe it’s important to elevate our stories and our food, especially the gems that might be overlooked, like the local eateries where working families gather to enjoy hearty meals.
