Hello! My name is Dwarkanaut Persaud, and I proudly call Bank Essequibo home. Nestled in the lush landscapes of the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, my life here is intertwined with the vibrant culture and rich history of Guyana. As a labourer, I contribute to our local community, where the charm of our way of life is only rivaled by the sweetness of ripe mangoes and the warmth of a shared meal of pepperpot or cook-up rice on special occasions.
Living in such a diverse country, I've been fortunate to embrace influences from our Indigenous peoples, Afro-Guyanese, Indo-Guyanese, and many more cultures. From the lively celebrations of Mashramani to the soothing sounds of the tassa drums, these experiences shape who I am. I also cherish my connection with the Guyanese diaspora, particularly those who've ventured abroad for better opportunities, often sending back stories of their experiences, celebrations, and a little bit of rum for us to enjoy during our family gatherings.
In my downtime, you can find me exploring the serene banks of the Essequibo River or sharing laughs with friends over a game of dominoes. Whether it’s discussing the latest happenings back home or reminiscing about the old days, I believe it’s vital to stay connected to our roots while nurturing the future generations.
