Hello! I'm Elizabeth Jacobis-Marsh, a dedicated teacher based in the beautiful region of Bank Demerara, Essequibo Islands-West Demerara. Growing up surrounded by the vibrant culture of Guyana, I have always been passionate about sharing our rich heritage with my students and the community. From the bustling streets of Georgetown to the serene banks of the Pomeroon River, my experiences have shaped my love for our unique customs, traditions, and, of course, our delicious cuisine.
As someone who cherishes the flavors of home, I often find myself reminiscing about the mouthwatering meals at Sybil's and the delights from Little Guyana Bake Shop. There's nothing quite like the taste of a spicy curry or the sweetness of a fresh bake, which remind me of our diverse food scene that reflects our multicultural roots. I strive to instill this appreciation for Guyanese culture within my students, encouraging them to embrace their identities and celebrate our shared history.
Though I currently reside in Guyana, I have a deep connection with the Guyanese diaspora around the world. Whether it's through stories shared from friends in Brixton or the memories of home evoked by diaspora conversations, we maintain a strong bond despite the miles. I believe education is a powerful tool for bridging cultures and fostering understanding, and I am committed to nurturing the next generation of leaders who will carry our Guyanese spirit into the future.
