Hello! I’m Elsworth Lewis, a dedicated teacher based in the vibrant West Coast Demerara region of Guyana. With a deep passion for education and community empowerment, I strive to inspire young minds while celebrating our rich cultural heritage. Growing up near the Pomeroon River and exploring the beauty of the Essequibo Islands, I have developed a profound appreciation for our lush landscapes, pepperpot, and the spirited sounds of chutney soca that infuse our daily lives.
My journey as an educator has been profoundly influenced by the diverse cultures that make up our nation. From the West African Yoruba influences in our music to the culinary delights that reflect our Indian and Indigenous heritage, I believe that understanding our roots is essential for nurturing a strong sense of identity in our youth. I often share stories of my experiences and the vibrant traditions of Guyanese life—whether it’s gathering with family over a plate of cook-up rice or participating in local festivities that celebrate our uniqueness.
Living and teaching in this beautiful country, I remain optimistic about the potential for growth and change. Despite the challenges we face with governance, I know that there is hope for a brighter future.
