Greetings! I'm Enrique Williams, a proud resident of the Upper Pomeroon River left bank in the vibrant community of Arapiako, Pomeroon-Supenaam. My roots run deep in this beautiful land, where the lush greenery meets the flowing rivers that tell stories of our ancestors. Growing up here, I’ve developed a profound appreciation for our rich culture, from the savory flavors of pepperpot to the sweet aroma of black cake during our festive celebrations. The warmth of our community, despite its challenges, is something I cherish dearly.
Having spent time abroad and frequently returning home, I’ve observed the complexities of our society. Many of the ambitious 'good eggs,' as I like to call them, migrate in search of better opportunities, leaving behind a landscape that often struggles with unity and consideration. Yet, I believe there’s hope. As we engage in open discussions about these issues, much like the conversations sparked by recent media, we can foster a mindset shift that prioritizes community over individualism. My vision is to see the Upper Pomeroon River thrive, where we support each other in our journeys.
