Hello and welcome! I’m Ermela Small-Price, a proud resident of Guyana living in the beautiful coastal community of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up here, my childhood was filled with the vibrant sounds of local markets and the rich aromas of our beloved cuisine. From the spicy notes of chicken curry that spark debates with our Trinidadian friends to the comfort of duck curry enjoyed on special occasions, food is truly the heart of our gatherings. As I navigate life in our lush landscape, I take inspiration from the rivers surrounding us, like the Pom River and the enchanting Akawini. The beauty of our communities, such as River Grant Dumbarton and Grant Covent Garden, reminds me of the interconnectedness we share, especially with our diaspora neighbors. Many of us have roots that stretch far beyond our borders, yet we always find ways to celebrate our heritage, whether through food, music, or festivals.
