Hello! I’m Fazil Henry, a logger based in the serene River Waikinipa, located in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of this beautiful country has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage. From the rhythmic sounds of the river to the hustle and bustle of local markets, every day offers a new chapter in the vibrant story of Guyana.
As a logger, I’ve spent countless hours working in the forests that are so vital to our economy and ecology. It’s a job that connects me not only to the land but also to the traditions of my ancestors, who understood the balance of nature and sustainability. Whether it’s enjoying a hearty meal of pepperpot with family or sharing stories over a cup of strong Guyanese coffee, I cherish the moments that reflect our unique blend of cultures—African, Indian, Amerindian, and more. Just like my dad, who would whip up marmite toast when my mum was at work, I believe in the comfort of food and family.
While I may be rooted here in Guyana, I have a strong connection with the diaspora around the world. I often find joy in hearing stories from fellow Guyanese in places far and wide, celebrating our shared experiences and the distinct flavors of our homeland. As we navigate life’s journeys, I hope to keep the spirit of our culture alive, whether through our delicious dishes or the beautiful landscapes of the Pomeroon that we all hold dear.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
