Greetings! I am Theophlius Fernandes, a dedicated miner hailing from the vibrant community of Chinese in Barima-Waini, Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the rich biodiversity of our rainforest and the winding rivers, I have developed a profound appreciation for our land. The Pomeroon River and its tributaries have not only shaped the landscape but also our way of life, with many cherished memories spent fishing and celebrating with family and friends gathering for a hearty meal of curry and roti.
As a proud Guyanese, I understand the perseverance and strength of our people. Like many, I often find myself reminiscing about the unique flavors of our culture, from the warmth of homemade pepperpot to the sweetness of a fresh soursop. Our communities, whether it's Waikinipa or Friendship Backland, are tightly knit, and it is heartening to see our diaspora actively engaging in the issues that matter. We are passionate about advocating for change, echoing the sentiments of our people who have been calling for better resources and infrastructure for years.
