Greetings! I am Florence Miguel, a dedicated teacher hailing from the vibrant community of St. Monica, nestled in the lush Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My roots run deep in this land, where the Essequibo River flows and the spirit of our diverse cultures flourishes. Guyana is not just home; it's a rich blend of Indian, Afro-Guyanese, Indigenous, and Creole traditions that shape our daily lives. Whether it's sharing a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or enjoying a Sunday meal of rice and stew, our culinary delights reflect the heart and soul of our community.
As an educator, I strive to inspire the next generation by instilling in them a sense of pride in our heritage. I often share stories of our beautiful island of Manawarin Shepeira, the camaraderie of our local markets, and the significance of our neighbors—Venezuela, Suriname, and Brazil. Though I currently reside in Guyana, I maintain strong connections with our diaspora, from Toronto to Trinidad. The memories of my late aunty D, who embodied our warmth and resilience, remind me of the importance of community, both near and far.
