Greetings! My name is Feona Francis, and I’m a proud farmer from Mission, located in the lush Barima-Waini region of Guyana. My days are spent tending to the rich soil, nurturing crops that not only feed my community but also connect us to our vibrant cultural heritage. Every harvest inspires me, whether it’s the sweet taste of golden ripe plantains or the fragrant aroma of freshly cooked cassava, a staple in our kitchens. Growing up surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of the Takatu River area has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our land and its bounties.
I cherish the relationships I've built with fellow farmers and my community, who share in the rhythms of rural life. Whether we’re exchanging tips on sustainable practices or gathering for lively discussions at the local market, the bonds created here are as nourishing as the food we grow. It's different now, especially as many of my friends have ventured abroad in search of new opportunities, but our shared experiences keep us connected, no matter the distance.
For me, being part of the Guyanese diaspora means celebrating our roots while embracing the future. I often reflect on memories of the Yaramai River and the warmth of St. Monica, and I invite anyone who wishes to learn more about our culture and traditions to reach out.
