Hello! My name is Francis Sookra, and I proudly call Coast School Street in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Growing up along the lush banks of the Pomeroon River, I’ve always been deeply connected to the rich culture and vibrant community of Guyana. From the rhythm of the local masakali festivals to the savory aroma of pepperpot and roti wafting through the streets, each day here is a celebration of our heritage. The warmth of my neighbors and the lively chatter at the markets remind me of the strength of our community, both here and in the diaspora.
As an avid supporter of our local mission initiatives, including those at River St Chad's Mission, I believe in giving back to the community that has nurtured me. I cherish the friendships I’ve formed with fellow Guyanese, both near and far, and I love sharing stories and traditional dishes that connect us to our roots. From Lower Pom River Grant to Prosperity Lower, every corner of our land has a story to tell, and I’m grateful to be a part of it.
Whether I’m enjoying a home-cooked meal or participating in community events, my heart is always with Guyana.
