Hello! I’m Paulette Fredericks, a dedicated farmer from Moruca in the Barima-Waini region of beautiful Guyana. With the lush landscape of our land as my backdrop, I cultivate a variety of crops, bringing the vibrant flavors of our culture to the table. There’s nothing quite like the taste of freshly harvested cassava or the sweetness of ripe mangoes, which remind me of the communal meals we share during festive celebrations like Mashramani and Phagwah. My roots run deep in this land, and I take pride in nurturing the earth that has sustained my family for generations.
Living in Moruca, I am surrounded by the rich diversity that defines our nation—from the sounds of the river to the warmth of our people. I often reflect on how our shared experiences shape our identity, especially as many of us have family spread across the globe. The stories we tell and the connections we maintain with the Guyanese diaspora inspire me to work harder and promote sustainable farming practices that will benefit both our local community and those who carry a piece of Guyana in their hearts wherever they may roam.
