Hello! I’m Gavena Singh, a proud resident of the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up here has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our vibrant culture, from the rich flavors of our beloved pepperpot and roti to the rhythmic sounds of calypso and soca that fill the air during festive gatherings. The lush landscapes and the mighty Pomeroon River are more than just backdrops—they are an integral part of my life, reminding me of the natural beauty that surrounds us.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections we maintain with each other, whether it's through sharing stories at West Indian clubs in Queens or reminiscing about the good old days with family and friends. I often think of our shared experiences, like the thrill of seeing an anaconda in the wild and the bond we have over our Ameri-Indian heritage. Despite the challenges our beloved country faces, including economic disparities, I truly believe that Guyana remains a hidden gem—a piece of paradise waiting to be explored.
