Greetings from the heart of Guyana! My name is Gavin Rodrigues, and I proudly call River Grant Providence in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a jetman, I work in the vibrant landscape of our beloved waterways, where the Pomeroon River flows with stories and the rich culture of our people. Guyana’s beauty is reflected in everything from the lush rainforests to the bustling markets filled with fresh produce, where you can find everything from cassava to the beloved pepperpot, a dish that’s a staple at our family gatherings.
Though I may be just a short distance from the wider Caribbean, my roots run deep in this region, and I cherish our unique identity. It's not uncommon for me to hear travelers struggle with the pronunciation of our country's name—some call it "Gaiana" instead of "Guyana." It always brings a smile as I think about how our diverse heritage shapes our community, blending influences from Indigenous peoples, African, Indian, and European roots. We are unified in our love for our homeland, no matter where we roam.
As I navigate life between the rivers and the vibrant culture that surrounds me, I find joy in connecting with fellow Guyanese both at home and abroad. Whether it’s sharing a laugh about our experiences or celebrating festive occasions like Mashramani, I am proud to represent our spirit. Together, we continue to tell the story of our land, embracing both its challenges and triumphs, with a heart full of love for Guyana.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
