Hello! My name is Gerdenson Gutierrez, and I proudly call the Essequibo Squatting Area in Tushchen home. As a mechanic, I have dedicated my life to ensuring that the engines and machines that power our vibrant community run smoothly. Growing up in this beautiful region of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of Guyana, from the rhythmic echo of calypso music to the mouthwatering taste of a well-prepared pepperpot, a dish that truly captures the spirit of our diverse landscapes.
My roots run deep, much like the rivers that crisscross our land—especially the Pomeroon River, which I often visit to connect with my community and its rich history. I’ve been fortunate to build strong ties with my neighbors, many of whom share stories of our ancestors and the struggles that have shaped our society. Whether it’s a gathering for a curry cook-off or sharing a laugh at the local mission in Kabakaburi, these moments remind me of our collective resilience amidst challenges, both past and present.
