Hello! My name is Gloria Benn, a dedicated teacher based in Coast 12 New Housing Scheme, Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. Growing up in this vibrant region, I've always been deeply connected to the rich tapestry of our culture. From the sweet melodies of our folk songs to the mouthwatering aroma of a freshly cooked plate of pepperpot or cook-up rice, every aspect of Guyanese life fills me with joy and pride. Home is truly where the heart is, and for me, that heart beats strongest in the lush landscapes of Guyana.
As an educator, I strive to instill the same love for our homeland in my students. I believe it’s important for them to understand their roots while embracing the opportunities that await them. Though many of my family members have moved abroad, I often reminisce about the times spent at River Bamboo Point, sharing laughter and stories that bind us, no matter the distance. I know that each visit back to my home country feels like a cherished vacation, where I can reconnect with the essence of who I am.
Despite the challenges that our nation faces, I remain optimistic about the transformation happening in Guyana. The spirit of resilience among Guyanese, both at home and in the diaspora, is inspiring. It is this dedication to our community and heritage that fuels my passion for teaching, as I aim to empower the next generation to carry our story forward. Together, we can keep our culture alive and vibrant, no matter where we are in the world.
