Hello! My name is Roland Richards, and I am proud to call the River Mora Settlement in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a dedicated teacher, I strive to inspire the next generation while sharing the rich culture of Guyana, from our delicious pepperpot to the vibrant sounds of chutney music. Growing up near the serene banks of the Pomeroon River, I've always found joy in the simple pleasures of life, like fishing with friends or savoring a warm bowl of cook-up rice after a long day.
Being part of the Guyanese diaspora means I carry a piece of my homeland with me, no matter where I go. Whether it's connecting with fellow countrymen in places like Upper Pom or reminiscing about days spent at Calistro Bay, I cherish these ties that bind us. Our community, both at home and abroad, is filled with individuals who share a passion for our heritage and a commitment to nurturing our roots, even as we navigate new paths.
As I continue my journey as an educator, I aim to bring the spirit of our communities—from Lower Pomeroon to the bustling streets of Georgetown—into the classroom, encouraging my students to embrace their identity and celebrate the beauty of our diverse culture. After all, it’s our stories and experiences that make us who we are, and I believe that every child should feel proud of where they come from.
