Growing up near the Pom River, I cherish the lush landscapes and the rich cultural fabric that defines our community. Whether it’s enjoying a hearty plate of pepperpot or sharing stories at the local markets, the essence of Guyanese life is something I hold close to my heart.
I have witnessed the unique blend of cultures that make our country special, from the rhythms of our diverse music to the flavors of our beloved dishes. As someone who has often heard comments about how “Guyanese are suspiciously similar to Trinis,” I find joy in celebrating our similarities while also honoring our distinct heritage. The warmth of the people here, the connection to our land, and the vibrant spirit of the Lower Pom River settlements inspire me daily.
Though I may be focused on my life in Essequibo, I carry the essence of Guyana everywhere I go.
