Hello! I’m Gordon Benn, a proud Guyanese native from the picturesque Essequibo Coast. Residing in the vibrant community of Richmond Housing, I serve as a policeman dedicated to keeping my neighborhood safe and welcoming. Growing up near the Pomeroon River, I've developed a deep appreciation for our beautiful landscapes and rich biodiversity. There's nothing quite like the serenity of a sunset over the river as I reminisce about the values and traditions that make us uniquely Guyanese.
Food is an essential part of my culture, and I firmly believe that no discussion about Guyanese cuisine is complete without mentioning our Indo-Guyanese heritage. Dishes like roti with curry and delicious pepper pot reflect the diverse tapestry of flavors that characterize our culinary scene. Whether it’s sharing a meal with friends or savoring a plate of cook-up rice on special occasions, food connects us to our roots and to each other.
Even as I navigate life in a new place, the memories of my homeland stay with me. I enjoy engaging with the Guyanese diaspora, where we celebrate our culture and share our stories. From the laughter shared over how some butcher the pronunciation of "Essequibo" to our collective pride in our rich traditions, I carry a piece of Guyana with me wherever I go. Is we own!
