Hello! I’m Grace Charles, and I proudly call Essequibo my home, specifically the vibrant community of Old Road Section B in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and the winding rivers of Guyana has shaped my love for the outdoors and the rich cultural heritage that our nation embodies. From the aroma of pepperpot simmering during the holidays to the lively sounds of our festivals, the essence of Guyana is deeply embedded in my daily life.
As a resident of Essequibo, I cherish the stories shared over a good glass of El Dorado rum, especially the 8-year-old variety that pairs perfectly with a fine cigar. There’s something special about gathering with family and friends, reminiscing about our roots while enjoying local delicacies like cook-up rice and fresh catch from the Pomeroon River. I often find myself reflecting on the beauty of our landscape, whether it's the serene River Kamarang Island or the bustling energy of St. Monica, which always feels like home no matter where I roam.
Being part of the Guyanese diaspora is important to me, as it allows me to connect with fellow Guyanese around the world. I love hearing from friends in places like Saint Vincent, who share in the camaraderie of our shared heritage. Through all the ups and downs, my pride in being Guyanese remains unshaken, and I look forward to bridging connections and sharing our culture with the world.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
