Hello! I’m Haimwantie Ram, a dedicated teacher from the lush region of Pomeroon-Supenaam in Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the vibrant landscapes and rich heritage of my homeland, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our diverse culture. Whether it’s indulging in a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or savoring a fresh fish curry by the Essequibo River, the flavors of Guyanese cuisine remind me of home and the cherished gatherings that take place around the dinner table.
As an educator, my mission is to inspire the next generation to embrace their roots while reaching for the stars. I believe in fostering a love for learning that transcends borders. Many of my students have family abroad, particularly in Canada and the United States, and I encourage them to stay connected with their cultural heritage. It warms my heart to see them excited about their identity, just as I am when I hear stories from the diaspora – like the joy of discovering new flights connecting Toronto to Guyana, or the nostalgia of enjoying our local delicacies from afar.
When I’m not in the classroom, you might find me exploring the local markets, sharing stories, or even dreaming of the day I can stroll through Georgetown's bustling streets again.
