Greetings from the Essequibo Coast! My name is Hajindra Persaud, and I proudly call Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a dedicated labourer, I understand the value of hard work, much like the rich history of our beautiful land, which was once owned by the British. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery of the Amazon rainforest, I take pride in our local heritage, from the sweet sounds of the calypso music to the delectable taste of our beloved pepperpot and metemgee. There's nothing quite like sharing a plate of cook-up rice with family after a long day of work.
Living in this vibrant community, I often find myself reminiscing about the breathtaking Pomeroon River and the nearby Calabash Island. It’s a place where memories are made, and laughter resonates with every wave that kisses the shore. Though the world may see Guyana as an overlooked gem, the spirit of our people is undeniable. From the bustling streets to the quiet corners of our villages, there’s a warmth that draws both locals and diaspora back to our roots.
As I navigate through life here on the Essequibo Coast, I keep close ties with friends and family abroad, sharing stories and experiences that reflect our diverse culture. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
