Greetings! I’m Hamawattie Bollers, a passionate educator based in Public Road Bounty, located in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My heart beats for the rich cultural heritage of our land, where the sounds of the Rupununi and the vibrant flavors of our beloved dishes, like pepperpot and metemgee, fill our lives with joy. Having grown up amidst the lush landscapes and warm communities, I understand the importance of connecting our youth to their roots, while also embracing the opportunities that lie beyond our shores.
As a teacher, I strive to inspire my students not only to excel academically but to appreciate the unique blend of cultures that shapes Guyana. I often incorporate local stories and traditions into my lessons, reminding my students of our shared history and resilience. I believe in nurturing a sense of pride in their identity, whether they are enjoying a delicious bake and saltfish or sharing tales of our ancestors’ journeys, both here and in the diaspora.
Through my work, I aim to bridge the gap between our local community and the wider world, encouraging a dialogue that celebrates our English-speaking heritage in South America, alongside our Caribbean neighbors.
