Greetings! My name is Hamechand Charrittar, and I proudly call Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a labourer, I take pride in contributing to our vibrant community, where every day brings new opportunities for hard work and camaraderie. Whether it’s sharing a meal of pepperpot and rice, or enjoying the festive spirit of Mashramani, I believe in embracing the rich tapestry of Guyanese culture and traditions that connect us all.
Living in Guyana, I cherish the things that make our country unique — from the colorful ZR vans that remind me of my childhood adventures, to the beautiful landscapes that surround us, like the Essequibo River. I often reminisce about walking over to Bonfim, Brazil, feeling the warmth of our neighbors and sharing stories that bridge our cultures. It’s in these moments that I truly understand the beauty of our diverse heritage, which includes a significant Hindu community, as well as various other traditions.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I feel a strong connection to those who have ventured abroad. I have witnessed how our language and creole expressions, such as “How yuh doin?” and responses like “Me a'rite,” serve as a reminder of home, no matter where we are in the world. I'm always eager to meet fellow Guyanese, whether in person or online, and share the love I have for my homeland. After all, no matter how far we roam, our hearts always keep a piece of Guyana with us.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
