Hello! I am Helen Williams, a dedicated health worker based in the beautiful River Saxacalli Essequibo region of Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the rich biodiversity of our landscape, I have always been passionate about improving the health and wellness of my community. My work allows me to connect deeply with the vibrant people of Guyana, where our culture is infused with the flavors of our beloved dishes, such as pepperpot and cook-up rice, which we often enjoy during festive gatherings.
As a proud Guyanese, I cherish the unique aspects of our culture, especially the warmth of our celebrations. Whether it’s Christmas time or the vibrant festivals showcasing our diverse heritage, I find immense joy in sharing these experiences with others. Despite the challenges we face, such as the occasional criticisms from those in the diaspora who may not fully appreciate our way of life, I remain steadfast in my love for my homeland. There’s no place like home, where the fresh, organic produce of our lands sustains us, and our community spirit thrives.
Through my work and personal interactions, I strive to advocate for health equity and promote the strength of our communities. I believe in the power of connection, both locally and among the Guyanese diaspora, as we share our stories and support each other.
