Hello! My name is Hyacinth Durga, and I proudly serve as a midwife in the vibrant community of River School Island, nestled in the heart of Akawini, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I developed a deep appreciation for our unique culture, from the delightful flavors of pepperpot and metemgee to the rhythm of our traditional folk songs. Here in Akawini, life revolves around the rich tapestry of our natural surroundings and the warmth of our people, all of whom have a story to tell.
As a midwife, my passion lies in supporting families during one of the most transformative times in their lives. It brings me immense joy to see new generations being welcomed into our community. I often draw strength from the traditions passed down through the generations, and I believe in nurturing not just the body, but also the spirit of those I assist.
