Hello! I’m Iona Allicock, a proud resident of Essequibo, specifically from 418 Peter Street Parika in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam. My roots run deep in this vibrant land, where the mighty Essequibo River whispers tales of history and culture. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and rich biodiversity of Guyana has shaped my appreciation for our natural beauty, from the stunning waterfalls to the diverse wildlife that calls our forests home. As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I’ve had the privilege of experiencing life both here and abroad. After years away, returning to Guyana in 2019 was both a joy and a challenge. While I share the frustrations many have regarding governance and corruption, I remain optimistic about the potential of my country. The spirit of our people, from the warmth of a neighborly smile to the resilience shown in times of hardship, fuels my passion for community and progress.
