Hello! My name is Ismay Thornhill, and I proudly call River Mora Settlement in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of Guyana, I’ve always been inspired by the vibrant culture and heritage that define our nation. From the rich flavors of our African food, which truly are undefeated, to the pulsating rhythms of our community gatherings, I carry the spirit of Guyana wherever I go.
As a resident of this serene settlement, I’ve witnessed the contradictions that shape our society. While many aspire for improvement—cleaner towns and better roads—there is an undeniable tension, as some locals struggle with a ‘don’t care’ attitude. I believe it’s crucial for us to foster a sense of collective respect and responsibility, not just for our environment but for each other. My hope is to be a part of the change, encouraging both my fellow Guyanese and our diaspora to reflect on the pride we can bring to our homeland.
