Greetings from the heart of Coast Lima Sands in Essequibo! My name is Ivan France, and I'm proud to be a labourer in a community that is a true mosaic of cultures and traditions. Growing up near the Pomeroon River, I've been fortunate to experience the beauty of our land—from the lush mangroves to the rich biodiversity that surrounds us. The vibrant Creole culture, where we often say "Meh speak creoleas," has deeply influenced my life, and I cherish the connections I’ve made with my fellow Guyanese, whether here or abroad.
Food is at the center of our gatherings, and you'll often find me enjoying a plate of pepperpot or curry, sharing stories and laughter with family and friends. Our community is a blend of indigenous, African, Indian, and European heritages, which makes every celebration, like Mashramani or Diwali, a colorful affair. I believe our diverse roots strengthen our bonds, as we often greet each other with "What up family?"—a testament to the warmth and hospitality we hold dear.
For those of us in the diaspora, the connection to our homeland remains strong. Whether reminiscing about a river trip down the Pomeroon or discussing the incredible landscapes from the Esequibo River to our neighbors in Venezuela, we carry our heritage with pride.
