Greetings from Guyana! My name is Jairajh Persaud, a proud rice farmer located on the vibrant Essequibo Coast. Nestled in the lush landscapes of Pomeroon-Supenaam, my farm thrives in the rich soil that has sustained generations of families. Here, rice farming isn’t just a job; it's a way of life that connects me to the land and my ancestors. Every grain harvested is a testament to the hard work and dedication we Guyanese are known for. Growing up in this beautiful country, I've seen both the challenges and the potential of our land. It's true that many of us feel a sense of frustration about the changes (or lack thereof) brought by recent oil discoveries. Like many in the diaspora, I often reflect on our community's mindset and the need for a collective effort to uplift our beloved Guyana. Despite the hurdles, I remain hopeful, believing that with the right attitude and care, we can foster a cleaner and more prosperous future for our people.
For me, being Guyanese means embracing our Caribbean vibes and the unique spirit that binds us together, no matter where we are in the world.
