Hello! I’m Chitra James, a proud resident of Waikrebi in the Barima-Waini region of beautiful Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of our country, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the rich cultural mosaic that defines our identity. From the rhythmic beats of chutney and calypso music echoing through the streets to the aromas of a freshly cooked plate of pepperpot, my heart is woven into the fabric of Guyanese life.
As someone who enjoys sharing my love for Guyana with others, I often reminisce about the days spent at local markets or enjoying a leisurely afternoon by the Pomeroon River. Whether it's indulging in the fiery flavors of our cuisine or celebrating the unity of our diverse communities, I find joy in the little things that make my homeland so special. I also keep my connections strong with the diaspora, where stories of Liberty Avenue bring back fond memories of home, echoing sentiments like “Sybil’s is definitely 🔥🔥🔥” that resonate with many of us.
In addition to my work in the community, I’m an advocate for understanding our history and the many influences that have shaped us, from our indigenous roots to the vibrant Indian heritage that many of us proudly carry.
