Hello! I’m James Shivlall, a proud Guyanese labourer residing in the Essequibo Coast 45 Housing Scheme Jib. Growing up in the lush landscapes of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I’ve always been surrounded by the rich diversity of our culture. From the vibrant celebrations of Mashramani to the delicious aroma of pepperpot and cook-up rice wafting through our homes, my life here is a celebration of our heritage and community.
Living near the Pomeroon River, I cherish the natural beauty that surrounds me, though I can't help but feel a pang of sadness at the changes over the years. As many in our diaspora have noted, while our capital, Georgetown, may face challenges, it does not overshadow the warmth and resilience of our people. I often reflect on the comments shared by those who miss the beauty of our land, and I relate deeply to their sentiments. This connection to our roots drives my passion for sharing the authentic Guyanese experience with others.
As I work hard to support my family, I also embrace the opportunity to connect with fellow Guyanese around the world. Whether through music, stories of our ancestors, or even the shared experiences of our diaspora, I carry the pride of being Guyanese in my heart.
