Greetings! I'm James Williams, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, specifically along the bustling public road in Aurora, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this vibrant region has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich culture and the natural beauty that surrounds us. As a true Guyanese, I take great pride in our culinary delights. Whether it's enjoying a hearty meal at Sybils or savoring the flavors of Veggie Castle, food is a central part of our gatherings and celebrations. I often reminisce about the traditional dishes we hold dear, like the way we call eggplant 'balangae' or refer to callaloo as 'bahgi.' These terms bring back fond memories of family meals and the warmth of home.
Though I may reside in Guyana, I feel a strong connection to the diasporic community around the world. I know firsthand that if you're not from Guyana, some of our experiences may be hard to grasp. From the tales of River Cabacalli to the nostalgic mention of Jonestown, I cherish sharing our stories. Together, we celebrate our heritage, and I am proud to represent my roots wherever I go.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
