Greetings from the lush Essequibo Coast! My name is Pulmattie Persaud, and I proudly call Aurora, located in the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region, my home. Growing up in this beautiful part of Guyana, I have been deeply influenced by our rich cultural heritage, which is a delightful blend of Indigenous, African, East Indian, and European traditions. From the mesmerizing rhythms of chutney soca music to the tantalizing flavors of our local cuisine—think pepperpot, curry, and roti—my life is infused with the essence of Guyanese culture.
One of my cherished memories includes gathering with family and friends along the Pomeroon River, where we share stories and enjoy fresh catch from the day’s fishing. Whether it's a lively celebration during Phagwah or a serene moment during the Hindu festival of Diwali, these experiences have forged a strong connection to my roots. Even though I currently do not hold a formal occupation, I find fulfillment in nurturing relationships within my community and embracing the warm camaraderie that defines our way of life.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the importance of keeping our cultural ties alive. Whether through sharing recipes, participating in local events, or connecting with fellow Guyanese abroad, I strive to honor my heritage and promote the beauty of our homeland.
