Hello! I’m Jannie Shivlall, a proud pastor residing in the serene Pomeroon region of Guyana. My heart beats for the rich culture and vibrant community of this beautiful land, where the Essequibo River flows and the lush greenery tells stories of our ancestors. Growing up in this area, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our local traditions, especially the warmth of our people and the flavors of our cuisine. From the spicy pepperpot at family gatherings to the sweet delight of coconut tart, food is an integral part of our communal spirit.
As a pastor, I am dedicated to serving not just my congregation but also the wider Pomeroon community. I believe in fostering connections—whether through sharing a meal or coming together for celebrations like Mashramani, where we honor our cultural heritage with parades and music. I also stay connected with the diaspora, as many of my friends and family have ventured to different parts of the world, carrying a piece of Guyana in their hearts. We often share stories of our homeland, from River Mora Settlement to the colorful streets of Georgetown, reminding us of where we come from.
In my ministry, I strive to provide support and guidance, hoping to uplift those around me. Guyana is not just a place on the map; it’s a spirit that transcends borders. As we navigate life’s challenges, I remain hopeful that those who have left will one day return, bringing back the energy and love of our homeland to make it even better. Let’s continue to cherish our roots and spread the joy that comes from being part of this wonderful Guyanese journey.
