Hello! My name is Jasoda Chaitram, and I proudly call Bank Essequibo my home. Nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, this vibrant community reflects the rich cultural mosaic of Guyana. Here, our homes may not be grand mansions, but they are filled with warmth, laughter, and the aromas of delicious local dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice, which remind us of our shared heritage and the stories passed down through generations.
As a resident deeply connected to my roots, I have witnessed the beauty and challenges of our beloved land. While some may highlight the struggles we face, I prefer to focus on the resilience and spirit of our people. Whether it’s a casual gathering in the village or a lively celebration during Mashramani, the sense of camaraderie among us is truly special. I believe that it takes a community to uplift one another and cherish the simple joys, like sharing a sweet drink of mauby or exploring the lush landscapes of the Essequibo River.
My journey has also taken me beyond our shores, connecting me with the Guyanese diaspora who share our passion for preserving our culture and strengthening our bonds.
