Hello! My name is Jenasha Calvan, and I proudly call Friendship Backlands in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Growing up in this vibrant part of Guyana has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich culture, from the tantalizing flavors of our local cuisine to the warmth of our community. Whether it's enjoying the best Chinese food in South America or sharing a meal of pepperpot with family, I cherish every moment that connects me to my roots.
One of my favorite places is the wooden church, a towering symbol of our resilience and faith that remains the tallest in the world. It reminds me of the stories my grandparents told me about the history and traditions that shape our identity. I often find myself reminiscing about the lively gatherings at Pomeroon River and the peaceful mornings spent exploring the beautiful Mora Settlement. These experiences have truly enriched my understanding of what it means to be Guyanese.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I always take pride in sharing our culture with others, whether it’s connecting with fellow expatriates or introducing foreign friends to our unique traditions.
