Hello! My name is Marieo Boyan, and I’m a proud miner from Friendship Backlands in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush beauty of our vast forests and rivers has instilled in me a deep appreciation for nature and the resources it provides. The vibrant community here is like no other, and I cherish the connections we form, often greeting each other with a friendly "yuh good?" as we pass by. Whether it's sharing stories over a plate of duck curry or enjoying a sunny day by the Pomeroon River, I believe in the warmth and hospitality that defines our Guyanese culture.
Mining has been more than just a job for me; it is a way to contribute to my community’s growth and sustainability. The challenges we face remind me of the resilience of our people, much like the challenges faced by the diaspora who navigate the world while keeping our culture alive. I often find myself reminiscing about our local festivities, family gatherings, and the joy of sharing our culinary delights, like pepperpot and metemgee, with friends and family both here and abroad.
