Hello! I’m Jhagdesh Persaud, a dedicated labourer hailing from the vibrant community of Coast Rivertown Sand in Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. Growing up amidst the rich landscapes of our country, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and the warmth of our local traditions. My roots are firmly planted in this diverse land where cultures blend harmoniously, creating a unique essence that defines us as Guyanese.
Food is a significant part of my life, just like for many in our community. There’s nothing quite like a hearty plate of pepperpot accompanied by cassava bread, especially around Christmas time when the aroma fills the air. I often reminisce about those festive gatherings with family, sharing stories and laughter over a pot of good, home-cooked food. In our local dialect, we have our own ways of expressing ourselves—like calling eggplant 'balangae'—which makes our conversations lively and heartfelt.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections we share, whether near or far. I find joy in discussing our beloved landmarks, like the Kaieteur Falls, and celebrating our local cricket heroes like Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Though I currently work to support my family, I'm always eager to connect with others who share my love for our homeland, whether through lively discussions about our culture or simply sharing a laugh over our distinct pronunciations. 🇬🇾
