Greetings from Baramita, located in the heart of the Barima-Waini region of Guyana! My name is Calistro Joseph, and I am a dedicated farmer with a deep connection to the lush landscapes and rich biodiversity of our beloved country. Living here, I’m surrounded by the vibrant culture and the simple joys of life, from the sound of the Pomeroon River to the delicious meals made from locally grown cassava and river fish. Just like many Guyanese, I take pride in sharing our traditional dishes, like pepperpot and metemgee, with family and friends.

My roots run deep in this land, where stories of our ancestors echo through the forests and rivers. As a farmer, I not only cultivate crops but also nurture a sense of community, often collaborating with neighbors in activities that celebrate our heritage. Whether it’s gathering at the local river cashew pond or enjoying a festival in St. Monica, these connections remind me of the strength and resilience found in our culture. My work is more than a profession; it’s a way to honor the traditions passed down through generations.

While I cherish my life here in Guyana, I am also aware of the experiences of our diaspora. My friends and family abroad often share their stories, reminding me of the strength of the Guyanese spirit, whether they’re navigating life in Liverpool or dealing with the challenges that come with being away from home.
